About Khimera

Sow the wind — reap the whirlwind!

The "Khimera" unit is a special operations unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU MOD), part of the "Tymur Special Unit".
We carry out sabotage, reconnaissance, assault and special combat operations of high complexity on the territory of Ukraine, aimed at protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state.
The unit was founded by Ukrainian public figure Oleksandr Kapshyn, call sign "Kappa".

Official date of formation — 24 August 2022.

Command

Oleksandr "Kappa" Kapshyn

Born on 29 December 1992 in Kherson. During the events of 2014–2015 he was among those who actively defended the Ukrainian position and prevented the so-called "Russian spring" scenario in Odesa.

His professional path in the civilian sector combines public work and the security sphere. Years of experience in leadership positions allowed him to develop solid management skills and the ability to work under high responsibility.

With the start of the full-scale invasion he volunteered for the front and created the "Khimera" unit, which was later integrated into the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

History

Combat path

Southern direction (2022–2023)

Defence of Mykolaiv and Kherson region

The core of the unit took part in the defence of Mykolaiv, the battles on the Inhulets river near Davydiv Brid and the liberation of Kherson. After the de-occupation of the city, it took up defensive positions along the Dnipro coast.

Operations in the Dnipro delta

Regular raids on the islands, setting up observation posts. Crossing of the Dnipro and landing on the left bank near Kozachi Laheri.

East and Sea (2024)

Kharkiv region

Defence of the village of Tykhe (Vovchansk direction). Holding this settlement allowed covering the flank of the Ukrainian group and prevented the encirclement of Vovchansk.

Black Sea

A series of operations on the Kinburn Spit and gas production platforms ("Boyko Towers"). Use of FPV drones launched from boats.

Downing of a Su-30SM

On 11 September 2024, Khimera fighters destroyed a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet with a Stinger MANPADS fired from a boat in the Black Sea.

Kupiansk and Sumy (2025)

Kupiansk direction

The offensive potential of the Russian army was neutralised and the enemy's plans to advance on Kupiansk were thwarted.

Sumy direction

Together with other DIU units, they stopped the advance of an enemy group of about 50,000 troops, despite the enemy's significant numerical superiority.
